What is Cognitive Evaluation Theory?
A theory explaining how rewards affect intrinsic motivation based on perception of the reward
What are the two key aspects of rewards in Cognitive Evaluation Theory?
Controlling aspect (internal vs. external control)
Informational aspect (self-competence feedback)
What is the effect of a controlling reward?
It can reduce intrinsic motivation by making the person feel controlled.
What is the effect of an informational reward?
It can enhance intrinsic motivation by increasing feelings of competence.
What is Flow?
A state of total absorption in an activity, with a sense of control, effortless movement, and loss of self-consciousness.
What happens if the task is too easy or too hard according to Flow Theory?
Too easy: Boredom
Too hard: Anxiety
