Lecture 8 - Cell Communication and Signalling Flashcards
What are the 3 types of cell Junctions?
Gap Junctions
Anchoring Junctions
Tight Junctions
What are the 4 main Transient cell communication ways?
Contact-Dependent
Paracrine
Synaptic
Endocrine
What is Contact-Dependent signalling?
when a signal binds to a receptor on a interacting cell
What is Endocrine signalling?
When the endocrine cell releases signals (hormones) that travel through the bloodstream and act on receptors of target cells at distant body sites
What is Paracrine signalling?
Signals that are released by cells into extracellular fluid in their neighbourhood and acts locally
What is Synaptic signalling?
Specific neurotransmitter signals at specialised junctions (synapses) between nerve cells
What is Autocrine Signalling
Signals that act back on the secreting cell
What are the 3 stages of cell signalling pathways?
Signal-Receptor Binding
Signal Transduction
Specific cell response
What are receptors
proteins that recognise specific ligands (complementary shape) and mediate a response ( change in cell)
What are the 3 main types of Membranes
- Ion channel-coupled receptors
- G Protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs)
- Enzyme-coupled receptors
What 2 components do G Protein-linked receptors have similarities in structure with
Trans-membrane receptor
