Autonomic Nervous System Flashcards
What 3 Visceral functions does the Autonomic Nervous System control?
- Circulation
- Digestion
- Excretion
What Do the Autonomic Nervous System nerves control?
- Smooth muscle
- Cardiac Muscle
- Secretory Glands
What Secretory Glands do ANS neves control? (APSS)
- Adrenal Medulla
- Pancreatic Islets
- Salivary Glands
- Sweat
How do ANS Nerves control Cardiac Muscle?
- Controls Heart rate
- Controls Contractile force
What are the 3 Divisions of the ANS?
- Sympathetic (SNS)
- Parasympathetic (PNS)
- Homeostasis - When SNS and PNS are Dynamically balanced
Where is the Adrenal Gland located?
On top of the kidneys
What are Receptors?
Protein structures that receive and transduce signals
What are 2 examples of receptors?
- Ligand-gated ion channel-linked (ionotropic) receptors
- G protein-linked (metabotropic ) receptors
What are Ionotropic Receptors?
- Binding site and cell combined
- No second messenger
- Rapid response
What are Metabotropic Receptors?
- Binding site not combined with a channel
- Has 2nd messenger
- Slower response
Give 1 example of an Organ that has input from both PNS and SNS
- Bronchial Smooth Muscle
List 9 Patadympathetic indications.
- pupil contstriction
- Decreased Heart rate
- Bronchoconstriction
- increased salivation
- Increased digestion
- Increased urination
- Increased defecation
- Stimulation of insulin secretion
- usually dominant
List 11 Sympathetic indications.
- Pupil dilation
- Increased Heart rate
- Bronchodilation
- Decreased salivation
- Decreased digestion
- Decreased urination
- Decreased defecation
- Vasoconstriction near non-essential organs
- Vasodilation near muscles
- Inhibition of insulin secretion
- Glycogenolysis
Is Fight or Flight response Sympathetic or Parasympathetic
