Taking notes, photographs, 3D scans and plans of the scene. Involving FARO focus 3D imaging and laser scans
What is involved in the collection of a crime scene?
Collection and storage of evidence, ensuring it is stored in the best state possible
What is involved in the case management of a crime scene?
Follow up to the event where the report is produced and it is determined what evidence needs to be analysed
What is the purpose of a command station?
To ensure easy communication and decision making on site
What is the role of the first officer at the scene?
Detain all possible suspects, render medical assistance where required and ensure evidence is not altered or destroyed
What is the chain of custody?
Documentation of the movement of evidence from the time it is obtained to be presented in court
What is the purpose of a preliminary survey?
Determine the extent of the scene with problem areas such as tight spaces and complex evidence noted to be prioritized
What is the purpose of a final survey
The final review of the scene before it can be released. Photographs are taken of the final condition
