Lecture 20 - Alternate light sources Flashcards
What is the difference between reflection, absorption and transmission of light?
Reflection is when light strikes a surface and bounces off. Absorption is when light strikes a surface and excites the electrons. Transmission is when light passes through an object
What is the purpose of rods and cones in the eye?
Rods are receptors that detect the amount of light present and cones perceive the colour of the light
What is stake shift as an alternate light source?
The wavelength being emitted by the object is shifted to enhance visualization
What is worn to view objects when enhanced with fluorescent light?
Goggles of a complementary colour to the light source to filter out reflected light
What type of light was found to effective and ineffective at enhancing bruises?
Infrared and UV are not effective. Violet and blue enhanced the bruises the most
What are the main types of alternate light sources?
UV, infrared and narrow band light
