Lecture 5.3 Flashcards

1
Q

Compare and contrast small molecule and peptide neurotransmitters

A

Small Molecule- Need a hint of Ca, synthesised in axon terminal, slow atonal transport, are recycled

Peptide- Need to fill up whole button with Ca to get action, synthesised in cell body, transport down micro tubules, enzymatic modification in axon terminal, used only once, broken down by peptidases

Q

Describe the 3 types of vesicle recycling

A

Normal cycle- SNARE complex is disassembled, vesicle to recycling pool

Rapid cycle- SNARE complex remains intact and vesicle remains docked in readily releasable pool (RRP)

Slow cycle- SNARE disassembly occurs, vesicle joins reserve pool
