frederick douglass published it in 1847, and it was important because it was one of the most influential papers founded by black people.
who is robert abbott, and why is he important?
the founded the Chicago Defender after the civil war, and gained notoriety by encouraging formerly enslaved black people to move to the north.
what are wire services?
when newspapers pool together to share expenses and cut down costs. the first one made was in 1900 and was called associated press.
who is joseph pulitzer?
he used yellow journalism to compete with hearst to sell more newspapers.
who was william randolph hearst?
founder of Hearst Communications, which was the largest newspaper chain at the time.
