what was the significance of the motion. picture patent company (the trust), that eddison created?

A

it was a way to make money from, and control the movie industry. anyone that wanted to make a movie had to get permission from the trust. the rules were such that it had to be one reel, twelve minutes long, and from an independent stage perspective.

A

they started moving west for better weather to film, and to experiment with longer films.

A

(racist asf) he moved west to start making his own movies. one of his most popular was The Birth of a Nation. this caused riots in movie houses, caused the resurgence of the kkk, the first protests lead by the naacp against the movie.

A

while meleis inspired ppl to dream thru his special effects, the waves seen in the vaudeville thru the gita scope by eddison mirrored reality back to ppl.

A

movies produced in hollywood cali would eventually gain notoriety overseas. the same thing applied to famous actors like charlie chaplin. he became a global superstar and became a millionaire bc of it.

what did movies provide for ppl?

A

provided ppl an escape from their reality, and movies also got across messages, like the celebration of the common man to the masses. by 1930 around nine million Americans were watching at least one movie per week.

A

the shape of things to come directed by cameron menzies which was adapted from h.g wells book. it predicted a modern world after a world war, and rekindled the way ppl thought about the future.

A

nazi germany was using cinema to further their ideas of a “racially united” germany. director leni r. created movies that celebrated the skewed nazi vision, including The Triumph of Will (1935)
