Lecture 4 - Interaction Challenges - Input Posture Flashcards
What is the challenge of input posture?
The grasp of the user on the device affecting the input to the device.
What is the worst input posture?
One handed as it leads to poor input and interaction with the device.
What varies with posture?
The efficiency of input and region in which we can provide the input (thumb reach that’s comfortable (as we are dealing with how to use devices comfortably in this course))
Is anticipating the posture a potential solution?
yes, by anticipating posture we can:
- optimize layout (place common elements in reachable areas , large targets in hard to reach areas)
Is giving alternatives to tap input a potential solution.
Yes, as we may not be able to tap certain areas, but can e.g. slide , which could be mapped to do the same function.
Is potentially having different input modalities a potential solution?
Yes e.g. back of device input , gaze input
What is the best solution to the problem of input posture?
Posture detection. By detecting posture we can dynamically change UI for comparability.
Q : What other factors do you think might affect touchscreen input?
- brightness of elements
- wet hands
- screen protector
- wearing gloves
- conventions between different systems
- hardware and their quality
