Ovaries
Gonads that produce ova and secrete estrogen and progesterone
Stages of follicullogenesis
Primordial follicle
Primary follicle
Secondary follicle
Tertiary follicule
Ovulating follicle
Corpus luteum
Uterine tubes (fallopian tubes)

End contains fimbriae which create current to move ovulated oocyte
Uterus
Hollow thick muscular organ that functions to receive, retain and nourish a fertilized ovum
Wall compromised of three layers:
Serous perimetrium- outermost
Myometrium- bulky
Endometrium-mucosal lining
Endometrium layers
Stratum functionalis- changes in response to ovarian hormone cycles and is shed during menstruation
Stratum basalis- forms new stratum functionalis after menstruation and unresponsive to ovarian hormones
Vagina
Provides passageway for menstrual blood or delivery of infant and penetration
Three layers: adventitia, muscular is and mucosa

Labia Majorca
Two elongates folds of skin that extend posteriorly from mons pubis
Labia Minora
Two thin folds of skin enclosed by labia majora
Enclose a recess called the vestibule which contains the vaginal and urethral opening
Skenes gland (lesser vestibular glands)
Homologous to penile prostate
Bartholins glands (greater vestibular glands)
Homologous to Bulbourethral gland of penis and produce lubricating mucous
Clitoris
Highly innervated erogenous zone of Erectile tissue
Includes glans, prepuce an two corpora cavernosa
Mammary glands
Produce milk
First type of milk called colostrum and changes few days after childbirth
Modified apocrine sweat glands
Breast cancer
Arises from epithelial cells of ducts and grows into a lump in the breast which cells eventually metastasize
