lecture 34 Flashcards
What is the function of cortisol as well as the major pathway it effects?
- Cortisol providees for changing requirements over the long term.
- It stimulates gluconeogeneogenis
- stimulates fatty acid release from adipose tissue
What is the function of epinephrine as well as the major pathway it effects?
- Mobilizes fuels during acute stress
- stimulates glucose production from glycogen (Muscle and liver)
- stimulates fatty acid release from adipose tissue.
What is the function of glucagon as well as the major pathway it effects?
- Mobilizes fuel and maintain sugar levels during fasting
- Acrivates glucineogenesis and glycogenolysis during fasting
- stimulates fatty acid release from adipose tissue
What is the function of insulin as well as the major pathway it effects?
- Promotes fuel storage after a meal
- promotes growth
- Stimulates glucose storage as glycogen
- stimulates fatty acid synthesis and storage after high CHO meal.
What is glucose 6-Phosphate?
Found in the kidneys and intestines but very important for liver to maintain constant levels of glucose in blood.
What is the function of glucose 6-phosphate?
Liver releases glucose into the blood during muscular activity and between meals and tit goes primarly to brain and skeletal muscles.
-G6P is not a major fuel for the liver but the liver releases it to other tissues.
