Lecture 28 TCA Cycle Flashcards
What does anaplerotic reaction mean?
Replenishing
What does the TCA constitute?
-it constitutes many biosynthetic pathways; maybe drawin away (Diverted, depleted) by cellular needs.
The intermediates must remain at a steady state for the cycle to continue at a steady state.
What are the pathways that replenish TCA cycle intermidates called?
ANAPLEROTIC intermediates.
it serves an important function in maintaining metabolic fluxes.
What is a malate aspartate shuttle?
NADH donation to ETC produces 3 ATP. The shuttle can function effectively only in cells ion which NADH/NAD+ ratio is much higher in cytosol than in mitochondrial matrix
o Shuttle NADH into mitochondria ONLY WHEN IT WAS CREATED BY GLYCOLYSI
What does the anapleortic intermediates serve as?
Anaplerotic. They serve an important function in maintaining metabolic fluxes Pyruvate decarboxylase: oxaloacetate PEP carboxykinase: oxaloacetate PEP carboxylase: oxalocetate Malic enzyme: malate
What are the two types of shuttles?
Glycerol phosphate: FADH2 Donation 2 ATP
• Brugada Sydrome and SIDS: GPDH (glycerol3phosphate dehydrogenase defect lethal arrythmia
Malate Aspartate: 3 ATP
What is the stoichiometry of one TCA Cycle?
Glucose+ 10 (NAD+) + 4ADP +2H2O + 4pi +2FAD ===> 6CO2 +10 NADH + 4ATP + 2FADH2 + 6H+
What are the porducts of TCA Cycle?
Per on glucose molecule, six carbons have been fully oxidized to CO2.
