What are the symptoms of major depressive disorder?

A
  • low mood, loss of interest, loss of pleasure (must experience at least one of these)
  • weight loss or gain
  • sleep and energy difficulties
  • changes in motor movements
  • feeling of worthlessness
  • difficulties with concentration

What is Bipolar Disorder, and what are the different types?

A

bipolar disorder is rapid cycling of emotions
Bipolar 1- extreme periods of an elevated mood, depression, and normal moods
Bipolar 2- increased elevation of their mood, but not to the same level

A

this is when a person experiences heaps of thoughts racing at one time, can be risky and make people take risks and be impulsive

A

negative thoughts and beliefs about
- the self (negative thoughts about themselves)
- the world (feel like the world hares them and is out to get them)
- the future (has no goals for the future)

  • all or nothing thinker –> need to achieve one thing or everything is going to go wrong
