Lecture 3 - Urogenital Triangle Flashcards
What is the urogenital triangle?
The anterior part of the perineum.
What are the boundaries of the urogenital triangle?
The pubic symphysis, ischiopubic rami, and a theorectical line between the two ischial tuberosities.
What is the fascia surrounding the urogenital triangle like?
Fatty and membranous.
What is the urogenital fascia in females?
Camper’s fascia continuous with ischiorectal fossa and thigh.
What is the urogenital fascia in males?
Scrotum - Camper’s fascia is replace by dartos smooth muscle.
What is the membranous fascia in the urogenital triangle?
(Scarpa’s = Cole’s) attached to posterior border of urogenital diaphragm, also into labia/scrotum.
What are the three layers of the urogenital diaphragm?
- Superior layer of fascia (deep, blends with perineal body and membrane).
- Sphincter urethrae and deep transverse perineal muscles.
- Inferior layer of fascia (Superficial, the perineal membrane).
Are the layers of the urogenital diaphragm joined?
Fuse anteriorly, with a small gap near the pubic symphysis. Posterior layers fuse with each other, membranous superficial fascia and the perineal body.
What is the deep perineal pouch?
Space between the fascial layers of the urogenital diaphragm.
What is contained in the deep perineal pouch?
Urethra, sphincter urethrae, deep transverse perineal muscles, internal pudendal vessels and branches.
What nerve supplies the deep perineal pouch?
Pudendal (perineal) nerve.
What is contained in the deep perineal pouch of a female?
Vagina, dorsal nerves of clitoris.
What is contained in the deep perineal pouch of a male?
Membranous urethra, dorsal nerves of penis, bulbourethral glands, and penile arteries.
What is in the superficial perineal pouch?
Structures between the perineal membrane (superficial fascia of the urogenital diaphragm) and the skin.
What muscles control the superficial perineal pouch?
Ischioavernosus, bulbospongiosus, superficial transverse perineal.
