Lecture 3: mechanical B6 Flashcards
How does fluid move?
High pressure to low pressure
Will flow until pressure is equalized
Blood is non-compressible, what does this mean?
Compression will raise pressure without affecting volume
What are the names of valves in heart and what do they do?
2 Atrioventricular valves -Mitral between LA and LV -Tricuspid between RA and RV 2 semilunar valves -Pulmonary between RV and PA -Aortic between LV and Aorta
Period of relaxation and filling of blood.
Diastole
What are the 3 parts of diastole?
Isovolumic relaxation- pressure drops, no change in volume
Rapid filling
Reduced filling
Period of force generation.
Systole
What are the 3 parts of systole?
Isovolumic contraction- pressure rises, no volume change
Rapid Ejection
Reduced ejection
If ventricle is diastole, Atria has contracted what valve closes.
Mitral valve closes
What are 3 ways to measure preload?
- Volume in ventricle is End-Diastolic Volume (EDV)
- Pressure is End-Diastolic Pressure (EDP)
- Venous return (VR)
Volume left in ventricle after it is done contracting.
End-systolic volume (ESV)
True/False: Heart spends more time in systole than it does systole.
True
