lecture 3- Homeostasis Flashcards
1
Q
What are the two big divisions of the CNS? what do they control?
A
Somatic- skeletal muscle
Autonomic system- smooth and cardiac muscle and glands
2
Q
Compare the properties of parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems:
- Where they outflow from the spine?
- Length of pre-ganglionic fibre
- Ganglionic transmitter
- Neuroeffector transmitter
A
- Symp= Thoracic and Lumbar
Parasymp= Cranial and sacral - Symp- short
Parasymp- long - Both acetylcholine
- Symp= noradrenaline (because adrenaline speeds up and so does sympathetic)
Parasympathetic- acetylcholine
3
Q
Whats the cycle of negative feedback?
A
- Sensor
- Afferent pathway
- Integrating centre
- Efferent pathway
- Effector
- correction of variable
- change in variable
4
Q
What is positive feedback?
A
An inital stimulus caises a response which reinforces itself
5
Q
Give 4 examples of positive feedback
A
- Milk production
- Action potential in nerves
- Ovulation
- Blood clotting
