Lecture 3 Flashcards
Dietary Reference intakes
- estimated energy requirements (eer)
- recommended dietary allowances (rda)
- estimated avg requirements (ear)
- tolerable upper intake level (uL)
- adequate intake (ai)
estimated energy requirements (eer)
calculates how many calories are needed to keep stable body weight
acceptable macronutrient distribution ranges (amdr)
to see if you are getting the right proportion of macros
acceptable macronutrient distribution ranges for carbs (all ages)
46-65%
acceptable macronutrient distribution ranges for protein (different ages: different percent)
1-3yrs: 5-20%
4-18yrs: 10-30%
19+: 10-35%
acceptable macronutrient distribution ranges of fat (different for ages: different percents)
1-3yrs: 30-40%
4-18yrs: 25-35%
19+: 20-35%
estimated avg requirements (ear):
meets 98% of pop
-bit good goal for individuals
(assesses aduequacy of diet in a population)
ex: ear for FE
recommended dietary allowances (rda)
meets requirements of population
(good goals 4 individuals)
ex RDA for FE
adequate intake (AI)
(for some nutr > not enough evidence to set an EAR or RDA)
adequate intake is used
-AI= thebmean intake of a healthy pop (goal for individuals if RDA does not exist)
ex: Ca for young infants
Tolerable upper intake level (UL)
highest avg daily nutrient intake level (poses 0 of adverse health effects)
-as intake goes ⬆️ UL, the risk of potential adverse effect may increase.
OLD CFG
- have meat alternatives more often (beans⬆️ protein, K, fiber)
- fish twice a week (long chain omega-3 FA)
- drink skim 1% or 2% (vit d)
