Lecture 25: Myocardial Infarctions Flashcards
What are some symptoms of a MI?
- Heavy, crushing pressure on chest
- Radiating into neck, jaw, left arm, shoulder blades
- Nausea, vomiting, diaphoresis (sweating), dyspnea
- Women can have silent symptoms
What causes an MI?
Narrowing or blockage of a coronary artery
-atherosclerosis
What can happen to ST segment during an MI?
Inverted T waves
Tall, peaked T waves
ST elevation
What are some biomarkers of necrosis associated with a MI?
Myoglobin
CK
Troponin I or T
CK-MB
What are some hallmarks of a NSTEMI (non ST segment elevation MI)
Elevated troponin, CK, CK-MB
- no ST segment elevation
- can have ST depression or T wave inversion
What are hallmarks of an acute myocardial infarction?
Complete interruption of blood flow
-ST segment elevation
If there is an anterior wall infarction, what artery is compromised? What leads will recognize this?
Left anterior interventricular artery (LAD)
-Leads V1-V7
If there is an inferior wall infarction, what artery is compromised? What leads will recognize this?
Right coronary artery
-Leads II, III, aVF
If there is a lateral wall infarction, what artery is compromised? What leads will recognize this?
Circumflex artery from LCA
-Leads I, aVL, V5, V6
If there is a posterior wall infarction, what artery is compromised? What leads will recognize this?
Posterior Descending Artery
-Leads V1-V3
