Q

What is a coronary artery bypass graft?

A

When a coronary artery is obstructed, it can be bypassed by a replacement. Normally Great Saphenous Vein is used.

Q

What is a coronary angioplasty?

A

When there is minimal obstruction in a coronary artery, a small balloon catheter can be inserted and inflated. The balloon flattens the obstructing plaque against the wall, increasing the size of the lumen and improving blood flow.

Q

What is a pulmonary embolism?

A

Obstruction of pulmonary artery by an embolus (blood clot, fat globule, or air bubble).
Embolus usually passes from vein –> right side of heart –> pulmonary artery.
