Lecture 24: Clinical Cases - ECG Focus Flashcards
What can cause sinus tachycardia?
Pregnancy Emotion Anxiety Fear Exertion
What can cause sinus bradycardia?
Response to sleep apnea Medication MI Increased ICP Hypothyroid
What is a premature beat?
Irritable focus spontaeneously fires
- atrial
- junctional
- ventricular
What is a premature atrial contraction associated with?
Stress Alcohol Tobacco Coffee COPD CAD
What is a premature ventricular contraction associated with?
Stress Hypoxia Drugs Heart Failure AMI Ischemic Heart Disease Cardiomyopathy Electrolyte disorder
What is ventricular tachycardia?
Abnormal premature ventricular contractions (PVCs)
- no-sustained
- wide
- can be tachycardic
What can cause ventricular tachycardia?
CAD Heart failure Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy Congenital Heart Disease Electrolyte Abnormalities
What is supraventricular tachycardia?
Narrow complex with fast HR
- can’t see P wave (merges w/ T wave)
- more normal with children
What can cause supraventricular tachycardia?
Thyroid Disease
Caffeine
Medication with stimulants
Stress
What is atrial fibrillation?
Atrial muscles not contracting, which can develop clot
- rhythm is irregularly irregular
- no proper P wave
- irregular QRS complex
What can cause atrial fibrillation?
Hypertensive Heart Disease Valvular Heart Disease CHF CAD Obesity and diabetes Metabolic syndrome Chronic Kidney Disease
What is a first AV block?
Prolonged PR interval
