Lecture 2.2 Flashcards
Describe the divisions of the autonomic nervous system
Somatic to skeletal muscle
Autonomic-Para/Sym
Name the meninges and what is different about them in the PNS?
Dura, Arachnoid, Pia
PNS only has Dura and Pia which is fused as one
Where is the CSF made and how does it flow?
Made in the choroid plexus and flows from the choroid plexus in the lateral ventricl\\
entricle through the cerebral aquaduct into the fourth ventricle
What is hydrocephalus?
Blockage of CSF drainage leading to an increase in pressure within the skull
What are the divisions of the brain that come from the forebrain within development
Lateral and third ventricle
Telencephalon-Cerebral cortex, basal ganglia, limbic system
Diencephalon- Thalamus and Hypothalamus
What are the divisions of the brain that come from the Midbrain within development?
Cerebral aquaduct
Mesencephalon
What are the division of the brain that come from the Hindbrain within development?
Fourth ventricle
Metencephalon- Cerebellum and Pons
Myelencephalon- Medulla
How do cells grow within the neural tube?
The grow out to the periphery, and development has an inside /out approach, radial glia direct cell migration and apoptosis stops growth when signalled
How many layers of the cerebral cortex are there?
6 layers
What parts of the brain develop first and last?
First- motor cortex, somatosensory cortex and primary visual area
Last-frontal lobe
What is the primary somatoseneory cortex?
Area posterior to central sulcus, somatotopic mapping of sensory input, sensory humunculus
What is the primary motor cortex and where is it?
Anterior to central sulcus and controls muscles on the opposite side of the body (contralateral)
