Lecture 10.1 Flashcards
Who is Clive Wearing?
Man who had bi lateral hippocampal lesions leading to anterograde amnesia
What were Clive’s symptoms
He had no episodic memory
had semantic memory and procedural memory
What are the 3 types of memory that are defined by capacity and duration?
Sensory memory- milliseconds, large capacity
STM- seconds to minutes, limited capacity
LTM- days to years, large capacity
What is encoding?
Processing of incoming information that is to be stored
What is explicit retrieval of memory and what are some examples?
Recovering information that is stored and that we are consciously aware of it
Ex. Episodic, Semantic
What is implicit retrieval of memory and some examples
Retrieval of memories that are not conscious to us
Ex. Procedural memory
What is sensory memory?
Memory representations of sensory input which is the holding area between sensory processes and later cognitive processes
What are the two types of sensory memory?
Iconic-visual
Echoic-auditory
Describe the three steps of memory
Encoding-Acquistion-Consolidation
