The innovation process in an organization. Awareness that you must do something new as an organization.
What is exploitation?
Creating a business model around the innovation you have made.
What is diffusion?
Spreading the innovation around the market.
Who comes up with an innovation?
It’s often an group process more than a creative individual. It’s an combination of organizational affordances.
What are trigger events for an innovation process?
- Idea generation/ creativity
- Scientific discovery

What are idea triggers for an innovation?
- Lone ranger (someone who has an fantastic idea)
- R & D
- Open innovation (people from outside the organization help to find the problem and/ or sollution)

The process from the idea to the practice of an innovation.

What is a product/ service innovation?
The combination of avaliable services to create something new. It must be a big change/ relative adventage in contrast to previous.
What is a process innovation?
A process within the organization is changed. It’s an internal change (vb. the app of Netflix)
What is a business model innovation?
A complete new way of doing business (vb. spotify, first having to buy in store and now downloading online)
What is a paradigma innovation?
Changing the strategy of your company (vb. Uber taking over the taxi market)
What different ways are there to look at different types of innovations?
- Incremental vs. disruptive innovations
- Matrix typology
What is the difference between incremental and disruptive innovations?
- Disruptive/ radical innovations > the start of the innovations lifecycle. early stage of the diffusion and adoption
- Incremental innovations > in advanced stage of the product lifecycle. More improvements and upgrades
vb. First iphone is disruptive innovation, iphone 15 is incremental innovation
What 4 types of innovations does the Matrix Typology state?
- regular > same market, minor changes to product (new type of iphone)
- architechtural > completely new product for new market (first iphone)
- niche creation > new market for existing technology (iPad for babies)
- revolutionary > new technology for the same market/customer (from vinyl record to CD)

A company generates, develops and commercializes its own ideas
What is an open innovation?
A company commercializes both its own ideas, innovations from other firms and seeks ways to bring in-house ideas to the market.

Asking the general public to come up with solutions and innovations.

- Knowledge discovery and management
- Broadcast search
- Peer- vetted creative production
- Distributed human intellegence tasking

Gathering and processing existing information (Wikipedia, users generating knowlegde)

Finding a single specialist of solution for the problem ( contests for best ideas)
