Lecture 19: Femoral Triangle and Vessels of the Lower Limb Flashcards
What/where is the femoral triangle?
A triangular space located in the groin region
What are the boundaries of the femoral triangle?
Inguinal ligament (superiorly)
Sartorius (laterally)
Adductor longus (medially)
Iliopsoas and pectineus (floor)
What are the contents of the femoral triangle?
- Femoral Nerve
- Femoral Artery
- Femoral Vein
- Lymphatics
What is the adductor canal?
Also known as subsartorial canal
A place that lays deep to sartorius, from the apex of the femoral triangle to the adductor hiatus
What are the contents of the adductor canal?
- Femoral artery
- Femoral vein
- Saphenous nerve
- Nerve to vastus medialis
What is the adductor hiatus?
Passageway for the major vessels of the lower limb
What passes through the adductor hiatus?
The femoral artery passes from anterior to posterior and becomes the popliteal artery
The popliteal vein passes from posterior to anterior and becomes the femoral vein
