Lecture 18: Muscles of the Anterior and Medial Thigh Flashcards
What are the muscle compartments created in the thigh by the fascia lata?
- Anterior thigh
- Medial thigh
- Posterior thigh
What are the muscles in the anterior thigh?
Pectineus
Iliopsoas
Sartorius
Quadriceps femoris
In what compartment is pectineus found?
It is believed to be a muscle of both the anterior and medial compartment of the thigh as it is innervated by 2 nerves (femoral and obturator nerve)
What is referred to as the tailor’s muscle? why?
The sartorius, because tailor’s work in a cross-legged position which demonstrate all of the muscle’s actions (hip flexion, abduction, lateral rotation and knee flexion)
What is patellar ligament also known as?
Patellar tendon
What are the muscles of the medial thigh?
Adductor longus Adductor brevis Adductor magnus Gracilis Obturator externus
What is sartorius also referred as?
The tailor’s muscle
What is found in both the anterior and medial compartment?
The pectineus
