Lecture 18 - Source Memory Flashcards
(lecture):
Describe what source memory is.
(lecture):
Memory that involves judgements about the contextual details surrounding an event e.g. who, when, where.
See slide 5
(lecture):
Describe the Dual-process accounts.
(lecture):
See slide 6
Familiarity - You know you have seen someone before but can’t remember the details (where what etc.)
(lecture):
Describe the remember-know procedure.
(lecture):
See slide 7
(lecture):
See slide 8 and classify whether it was a remember, know or new response.

Describe the objective source paradigm.

See slide 10
(lecture):
Describe source monitoring (SM)
and the source monitoring framework. (SMF)

See slide 11

(lecture):
It has been suggested (e.g. Frith, 1992) that some
symptoms of schizophrenia might result from deficits in
reality monitoring.

(lecture):
Do individuals with schizophrenia have deficits in Recollection and/or Familiarity?
(lecture):
See slide 14
Found that Sz have deficits in recollection but not in familiarity.
See slide 15
Found Sz don’t have deficits in recollection.
See slide 16
If bars go downwards, Pps performed worse than the controls and Vice Versa
Found Sz have deficits in recollection, smaller more variable deficits in familiarity.
(lecture):
If there is a deficit in Recollection are certain types of source memory (e.g. RM) more affected than others?
(lecture):
See slide 18
Found individuals with Sz appear to have deficits with reality monitoring.
See slide 19
Found individuals with Sz have deficits in internal source monitoring decision.
See slide 20
Found individuals with Sz there wasn’t evidence for a particular deficit in e.g. reality monitoring over the other sorts of memory decisions.

CONCLUSIONS
A number of different tasks can be used to examine
source memory, which each have their strengths and
weaknesses.
Individuals with schizophrenia have greater deficits in
Recollection than Familiarity.
It might be predicted that they will have deficits in
particular types of source memory e.g. reality monitoring.
However a meta-analysis on the subject found no
significant differences in effect sizes between reality
monitoring, external source monitoring or internal source
monitoring in schizophrenia.
A generalised source memory deficit?
