Lecture 18 Flashcards
What are the regional features of the brachial artery?
Runs down medial side of humerus.
Ends up directly between the two epicondyles.
The radial nerve and profunda brachial artery spiral around the back of the humerus and anastomose.
What are the regional features of the radial artery?
Tucks under the cover of the brachioradialis down the lateral/radial side of the forearm.
Pierces supinator to go to the posterior side of arm.
Runs through the anatomical snuffbox.
What are the regional features of the ulnar artery?
Crosses to the medial/ulnar side.
Tucks under FCU.
Doesn’t go under the flexor retinaculum.
What are the arteries of the hand?
At the level of the outstretched thumb.
To get to the superficial layers completes the superficial palmar arch.
Supplies digital arteries.
Hockey stick or completed by a deep palmar arch which is part of the radial artery.
What are the superficial veins?
Always visible in superficial fascia.
Basilic (medial) - basilic vein and brachial veins -> axillary vein, only goes half way up.
Cephalic (lateral) - deltopectoral groove, clavipectoral fascia, axillary vein.
Dorsal venous arch – bulk of blood from hand, pressure of gripping.
Median cubital vein (palmar side)
