Lecture 14 Flashcards
What is the function of T-cells?
cell mediated immunity
What is the function of B-cells?
antibody mediated immunity
How does the secondary immune response differ from the primary immune response?
The lag time is not as great (starting of with a greater number of cells- memory)
Th lymph nodes has _cells on the inside and _ cells on the outside:
T-cells
B-cells
What is the response of B-cells to antigen? What is the benefit of this response?
These are antibody making factories, synthesising large amounts of Y-shaped proteins. Anti-body can block things, the macrophages can see them and will eat them
What conditions are required for the T-cell to be able to recognise the antigen?
Only able to recognise the protein when it is presented in a special MHC molecule that allows peptides to be able to fit within it
How do the antigens typically get to the T-cells?
Dendritic cells capture the antigen and bring it to the T-cell
What is the function of killer T-cells?
Use toxic granule proteins to kill the virus
What is the function of helper T-cells?
make cytokines and surface cells to help activate other cells within the immune system
