Lecture 13 Flashcards
Where is the biceps brachii located?
Elbow.
Where is the triceps brachii located?
Elbow.
Where is the Illiospsoas located
Hips.
Where is the Gluteus Maximus located?
Hips.
Where is the Hamstrings located?
Hips and Knee.
Where is the Quad. femoris located?
Knee.
Where is the Tibialis anterior located?
Ankle.
Where is the Triceps surae located?
Ankle.
What kind of movement will a muscle/joint perform if the muscle is located on the anterior side of the joint?
Flexion (in the direction of the muscle attachment).
What kind of movement will a muscle/joint perform if the muscle is located on the posterior side of the joint?
Extension.
What kind of movement will a muscle/joint perform if the muscle is located on the medial side of a joint?
Adduction.
What kind of movement will a muscle/joint perform if the muscle is located on the lateral side of a joint?
Abduction. e.g. deltoid.
Where does the Deltoid attach?
The pectoral girdle (scapula and clavicle) and humerus.
Where does the Bicep Brachii attach?
The Scapula and Radius. Allowing for flexion at the elbow and supination at the radioulnar.
Where does the Tricep Brachii attach?
The Scapula, Humerus and ulna. Allowing for extension of the elbow.
Where does the lliopsoas attach?
The psoa attaches to the vertebra and lliiacus attaches to the anterior surface of the pelvis. (both heads then attach to femur) Allowing for hip flexion.
Where does the Gluteus maximus attach?
The Illotibial band, sacrum and pelvis and femur. Allowing for hip extension.
Where does the quadriceps femoris attach?
Attaches to the pelvis and femur, then the patella tendon then the tibia. Allows for knee extension.
Where does the hamstring attach?
Attaches to the pelvis, femur, tibia and fibula. Allows for flexion and also rotation (when knee is flexed).
Where does the tibialis anterior attach?
Attaches to the tibia and medial tarsals (ankle). Allows for dorsiflexion.
Where does the Triceps surae (2 calf muscles) attach?
Attaches to the femur, tibia, fibula, to the calcaneus via the calcanea tendon. Allows for plantarflexion.
What is the Iliotibial band?
Tendon running the the lateral side of the leg.
What are the 2 heads of the Illiosoas and where do they attach?
- Psoas major - attaches to the vertebrae and then the femur
- Iliacus - attaches to the pelvis and then the femur.
What are the 4 sections of the quadriceps femoris?
- medialis, intermedius, medialis - which are the vasti muscles
- rectus femoris
What are the 3 sections of the hamstring?
Biceps femoris, semi-membranosus, semi-tendonsus.
