Lecture 1 Flashcards
What are the 4 points in the Human Tissue Act?
- Voluntary donation of bodies.
- Deceased person’s wishes can be overridden by objections of surviving spouse or relative.
- No reference to how long we can keep the body parts
- Avoid unnecessary mutilation of the body - show respect
What are the 4 basic types of tissue?
- Connective
- Muscle
- Epithelial
- Nervous
Describe the structure of each type of tissue.
Epithelial - sheets/layers of cells with very little matrix
Connective - sparse cells with lots of matrix containing fibres
Muscle - long fibre like cells with strong fibres capable of pulling loads
Nervous - highly cellular of many types. Helps with conducting and supporting.
List the function of each type of tissue.
Epithelial - protects/covers body surfaces and lines cavities
Connective - supports structures and transports substances
Muscle - produces movement and heat
Nervous - communication and coordination between body parts.
Give examples of each type of tissue.
Epithelial - skin, lining of tracts, glands
Connective - Bone, cartilage, tendons, fat, blood, etc
Muscle - muscles - skeletal, smooth and cardiac
Nervous - nerves, sensory organs, brain and spinal cord
