More than 50 studies have demonstrated that as the number of bystanders increases, the probability of any 1 person helping decreases

When do we help others?
A
- When we are rewarded (or not punished) for previous helping, we will help again
- When our mood is positive
- When time permits
- When someone else helps (modeling): Flat tire, Salvation Army donations, TV telethons
- When norms direct us to help (reciprocity norm and social responsibility norm)
- People we like - attractive and similar others
- Deserving others
