Lecture 12 Flashcards
What kind of cells survive irradiation?
Cells that do not divide rapidly, such as epithelial cells
Which cells are deleted due to irradiation?
Cells that do divide rapidly, such as hematopoietic cells
To be a bone marrow donor the recipient and donor must share at least partially what?
MHC I and II alleles
What will happen to a patient who received bone marrow of completely different HLA type?
If HLA does not match–>no immune response
What will happen if a patient who received bone marrow sharing some HLA class I and II allotypes?
Same HLA haplotype on donor & recipient–>infection is eliminated
Are hematopoietic cells radiation sensitive or resistant? And where are they derived from?
-Radiation sensitive
-derived from donor
Are Stroma cells radiation sensitive or radiation resistant? And where are they derived from?
-Radiation resistant
-Derived from T cells
What kind of cells express positive selection?
cTEC
-cortical epithelium cells
What kind of cells express Negative Selection?
mTEC & mDC
-medullary epithelium cells
-medullary dendritic cells
If there is no interaction between the TCR and MHC what happens?
Death by neglect
What happens if a TCR binds w/ low affinity to MHC?
Positive Selection
-survival and maturation
What happens if a TCR binds w/ high affinity to MHC
Negative Selection
-DEATH
