Athlete’s Circle of Care
Individuals involved in the care of the athlete
Sometimes involves a wide range of health and physical activity professionals
Role of Health Care Providers in the Athlete’s Circle of Care
- to promote lifelong health and wellness and to promote peak physical performance
- peak performance is influenced by multiple interpersonal factors so a tailored approach is critical
Role of Parent’s in Child Athletes CoC
-parent’s should maintain open communication with the athletic training staff regarding injury, risk, athletic development, proper nutrition and treatment of injuries
Team Doctor/Physician
- physician specializing in sport medicine who helps the athlete maximize function as part of a team
- first responsibility is to determine whether an athlete is fit to participate
Family Doctor
- involved in the individual athlete’s health care on an ongoing basis
- have the athlete’s history and are in a better position to supervise long-term care and health management
Physical Therapist
- help athletes improve and maintain their physical performance and ability to function independently
- prevent and manage pain, physical impairments, disabilities and limits to participation and promote fitness
Chiropractor
- provide diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system
- emphasize manual therapies including spinal manipulation and adjustment
Athletic Therapist
- provide emergency, on-field and clinical care of musculoskeletal injuries
- goal is to facilitate a safe return to participation in sport and rec activities
- help athletes and active individuals prevent injury and improve their physical capabilities and active lifestyles
Massage Therapist
-assess the soft tissue and joints of the body and administer massage therapy to relive pain and symptoms of stress or to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function
Certified Personal Trainer
-design and implement safe and effective strength and conditioning for individual clinets
