Lec 9/16 Flashcards
what is vascular system composed of?
cardiovascular system & lymphatic system
what is cardiovascular system composed of ?
heart, blood vessels, boold
what is lymphatic system composed of ?
lymph tissue/nodes
lymph vessels
lymph
what is blood composed of?
liquid plasma+formed elements
what are formed elements?
erythrocytes, leukocytes, thrombocytes(platelets)
what are 3 major types of vessels?
arteries, veins, capilaries
what are 3 layers of blood vessel?
tunica intima, tunica media, tunica, adventitia
major arteries of human body
aorta, brachiocephalic, carotid, subclavian, axillary, brachial, radial, ulnar, common iliac, internal iliac, external iliac
what are structures help veins w/ circulation of blood?
valves, skeletal muscles, pressure changes in the thorax
why do veins need help w/ circulation of blood?
because veins have thin smooth muscle in vessel
what are majors veins of human body?
superior vena cava, right and left brachiocephalic, internal and external jugular, subclavian, axillary, cephalic, basilic, azygos, hemiazygos, inferior vena cava, common iliac, internal iliac, external iliac
what is anastomose?
connection of blood vessels
what are EX of anastomose?
capillaries, arteriovenous, arterial
why dont arteries have valves?
cuz flow can be bidirectional, and follow a pressure graident
where are bypassing capillary beds found?
skin, mucosa, organsm glands
what is end artery?
artery that does not anastomose w/ other arteries
what are EX of end arteries?
central artery of the retina, splenic artery, proper hepatic artery
what is lymphatic system composed of?
bone, thymus, spleen, lymph nodes, tonsils, mucosa associated lymphatic tissue
what are cells of lymphatic system?
Tcell and Bcell
what are characteristics of Tcell?
- manage immune response
- attack and destroy foreign cells
- mature in thymus
what are characteristics of B cell?
-produce plasma cells which secrete antibodies
-antibodies immobilize antigens
mature in bone marrow
what are characteristics of lymphatic collecting vessels?
- have same 3 tunics as veins
- have thinner walls, more internal valves
- anastomose more frequently
- collecting vessels in skin travel w/ superficial veins
- deep vessels travel w/ arteries
- nutrients are supplied from branching vasa vasorum
where does thoracic duct go into?
left subclavian veins
where does right lymphatic duct go into?
right subclavian vein
when lymph nodes become inflamed, swollen, tender to touch, what is it called?
buboes
