Give an example of the law of exercise

A

-If a gymnast practises floor routines repeatedly, the stimulus-response bond is exercised
- The more times it is practiced more likely the response will be bonded to stimulus

A
  • If the response is followed by a ‘satisfier’ the S-R bond is strengthened
  • If the response is followed by an ‘annoyer’ S-R bond weakened
  • Pleasant outcomes motivate repetition of action

A

Beginner rugby player attempts spins pass, if successful, more likely skill is performed successfully again
If unsuccessful, the effect is one that is subsequently avoided

A

What is Hull’s drive theory ?

A
  • To have a strong S-R bond, performer must be motivated
  • Too much repetition may lead to ‘inhibition’ and weaken S-R bond
  • Inhibition can be overcome after rest intervals with new, more motivating goals
