  • A natural response
  • evolutionary development of species
  • defending territory, common expression of aggression in animals
  • Lorenz 1966: humans generate aggressive energy which needs to be released

What is the frustration-aggression hypothesis ?

A

Drive to goal > obstacle to goal > frustration > aggression.

This aggression can either be channeled to success > catharsis

Or.

Channeled to punishment and therefore > greater frustration

What is the aggressive cya hypothesis ?

A

Frustration = increased arousal levels creating a readiness for aggression

(According to Berkowitz) > certain stimuli must be present for cues for the athletes which are associated with being aggressive
