Leadership in Support of Plan Making Flashcards
What makes a good leader?
First, being a good leader means being an effective communicator. This involves being a good listener, knowing your audience, and understanding the perspective of others. Leaders need to identify and focus on common goals rather than exclusively pushing their own agendas. They need to develop an understanding of who the community leaders are-beyond elected officials- and make sure they understand the perspective of those leaders.
Leaders need to be excited about what they’re talking about, and they need to convey that excitement. leaders need to think about why others should care about their ideas. Planners can “frame their ideas by understanding why an idea might be important to different kinds of stakeholders (a “frame” is not the same as “spin”)
