LB Pain/Pain Flashcards
Lumbago
mechanical LB pain
Unilateral pain s/referral below the knee may be caused by possibly (3) structures:
- muscle (sprain)
- ligament (sprain) of the lumbar facet joint
- SI-Joint
What type of issues can refer pain of a similar quality to the butt and back of leg
Disc Pain, muscle strain, ligament sprain, facet joint pathology
___________ would present with pain distal to the KNEE as numbness, pins and needles and possibly muscle weakness/atrophy.
A nerve root lesion/entrapment
Intrathecal pressure
pressure inside the covering of the spinal cord
Increased intrathecal pressure causes -
- increased pressure in lumbar spine pushing on neurological structures.
What can increase intrathecal pressure?
laughing, sneezing, coughing, deep breathing, moving bowels
Disc pathology can be worse with
sitting, twisting, bending, lifting
Postures that relieve pain give a clue about
what structures are not active or under stress
Bladder and or/Bowel problems may indicate
nerve pathology/impingement and pressing on nerves that control these muscles
