Where, how is the performs pain felt?
Pain in buttock, radiation to hip, coccyx, down the back of the thigh (sciatica)
Piriformis involvement - restrictions:
Restricted hip abduction, restricted internal rotation due to pain
If sciatic nerve is impinged, what tests show up positive?
positive straight leg raise, with internal rotation of the hip (bend leg and move lower leg to side)
‘pins & needles’ in calf or foot can be present if
sciatic nerve is impinged
Must differentiate between nerve impingement and myofascial pain how?
Nerve: pins & needles
MYOfascial: dull, achy, sore
Piriformis syndrome is described as a compression of the
sciatic nerve by the piriformis
When does the performs syndrome present mostly?
hip flexion, medial hip rotation => stretch of the piriformis => causes stretch of sciatic nerve & pain

Where would you do Tui Na?
deeply bw sacrum & greater trochanter
How to massage:
use hip internal & external rotation with massage
How do you find 1st Trp on performs?
Divide sacrum in half, @ midpoint find edge of sacrum, TRP 1 cun lateral
Special Testing
RROM, HIP Lateral Rotation and Abduction
