What are political influences on the law

A

During general election each party creates a manifesto which outlines their promises. This outlines the bills they would like to put out before parliament

What is the law commission and what do they do

A

Independent body set up in 1965 to keep law in England and Wales under review and recommend change when necessary

  • Put forward recommendations to codify the law
  • Repeal acts which are no longer in use or needed

How does the law commission work

A
  • study laws to outline any problems
  • Create consultation papers which sets out the issues with the law and look at the options to change it
  • consultation papers then are shown to the public via social media, internet and other relevant parties
  • Law commission then produces a report to the lord chancellor which often includes a draft bill which is shown to parliament to be debated.
