Anterior scalene
transverse processes
of cervical vertebrae 3, 4 & 5&6
superior aspect of 1st rib at scalene tubercle
bends cervical portion of vertebral column
antero-laterally and rotates it towards the opposite side/ elevates 1st rib
ventral rami of C 4,-6
Middle scalene
transverse processes of cervical vertebrae 2-7
superior aspect of 1st rib
bends the cervical vertebral column to the same side/ elevates 1st rib
ventral rami of C 3- 6
Posterior scalene
transverse processes of cervical vertebrae 5&6
superior aspect of 2nd rib
bends lower portion
of the cervical vertebral column to same side/ elevates 2nd rib
ventral rami of lower cervical NN.
Longus capitis
basilar portion of occipital bone
transverse processes of cervical vertebrae 3, 4, 5, and 6
flexes the head on the neck
ventral rami of C 1,2, & 3
Longus colli
arranged in multiple tendionous slips spanning the interval from atlas to 3 upper thoracic vertebral bodies
flexes neck forward
and rotates the
neck to the opposite side
ventral rami of C 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6
