Last lecture Flashcards
What are the negative consequences of using punishment
- punishment fails to suggest a more effective alternative behavior (you do not teach the right thing to do)
- simply leads to suppresion of the undesirable behavior when that punishing agent around (how do we all drive when we see a cop)
- punishment creates negative feelings within the person being punished
- generalization of feelings towards the punishing agent
- punishment promotes avoidance behaviors
- punishment is a model for aggression
how to effectively change behavior
- specify undesired behavior
- make consequence imediate
- make consequence consistant
- use timeouts or repsonse cost
- suggest reinforce desired behavior
The cue
indicate direction/activity thats appropriate
Response
Illicted by drive and cues aimed at eliminating that drive can be
- overt
- covert
Dominant response
the response most likely to occure because of the success at eliminating the drive
Initial Heirarchy
the heirarchy or responses present before learning has occured
Resultant Heirarchy
heirarchy after learning has occured
Reward
any stimulus that causes drive reduction can be
- primary
- secondary
Discuss the relationship between frustration and agression
Frustration causes aggression
this occurs when obsticles interfere with drive reduction which causes you to get aggressive towards the person standing in the way of drive reduction
3 factors
- the drive level associated with the response
- completeness of the frustration
- cumulative effect of minor frustrations
Discuss the modification of frustration aggression
Aggression is only one possible response to frustration
agression can also be DISPLACED but this is not as effect at dealing with the aggression
alternatively agression does not come directly from frustration but comes through other emotions first.
