Language Acquisition Device
Noam Chomsky (1959) believed that the ability to develop a signed or spoken language is genetically programmed into individuals meaning that all individuals have the ability to understand and use language regardless of other abilities and to become fluent in their first language bye 5 or 6
What did Noam Chomsky suggested
Humans are born with a structure in their brain that enables them to acquire language
Have a critical period for first language development in the first years of life
All follow the same pattern of langue development
Have an innate under of the structure of language tantos the basis of all languages
(Nature)
Criticism of Noam Chomsky
Lack of scientific evidence of innate underdog structure of language
Does not take into account that a language acquisition support system is required
The rate of language development is affected by the degree of interactions with others
Chomsky put emphasis on grammar in sentences development rather than meanings
