Landing Gear & Brakes Flashcards
To prevent exceeding VFE, a safety valve isolates the GREEN hydraulic supply above what speed?
260 kts
What hydraulic system powers the main gear?
GREEN
What hydraulic system and computer powers the NWS?
YELLOW and the Brake Steering Control Unit (BSCU)
What do the Landing Gear Control and Interface Units (LGCIU) do?
Control door and gear movement
Monitor gear and door positions through prox sensors
Gear info to ECAM
Sends gnd/flt signals to other aircraft systems
When do the Landing Gear Control and Interface Units (LGCIU) alternate control?
At the end of each cycle
OR
During failure
What are the 5 braking modes?
Normal
Alt with antiskid
Alt without antiskid
Accumulator only braking
Parking Brake
In the WHEELS pages what do the triangles represent?
LEFT = Landing Gear Control and Interface Units (LGCIU) 1 sensor
RIGHT = Landing Gear Control and Interface Units (LGCIU) 2 sensor
What is the action item when GEAR UPLOCK is displayed?
Do NOT raise the gear lever
What does a GREEN ARC on the BRAKES page represent?
Brake temp >100C
What does a AMBER ARC on the BRAKES page represent?
Brake temp >300C
What does the REL stand for?
Brakes Released
What does the N/W STEERING amber indication on WHEEL SD mean?
Failure of nosewheel steering system
Failure of both BSCUs
Low Yellow pressure
A/SKID and N/W STGR switch selected off
What does the ANTI SKID label on WHEEL SD mean?
Amber:
Both BSCU channels fail
A/SKID and N/W STGR switch selected off
Antiskid Failure
Low Yellow pressure
Green:
autobrake, normal braking, or alternate braking failure, and antiskid still available
What does the NORM BRK label on WHEEL SD mean?
GREEN = Auto and Alternate brakes failure
AMBER = Loss of Normal Braking from BSCU failure or low Green pressure
What does the ALTN BRK label on WHEEL SD mean?
GREEN = Alternate braking available, normal and anti-skid failure
AMBER = Alternate braking failure
How are the Landing Gear Position indicators signaled?
LGCIU 1 ONLY
When and only when will MAX autobrakes be selected?
TO only
What does the A/SKID & N/W STRG switch do?
Provides power to both BSCUs
What system powers the parking brake?
YELLOW
What system powers the wheels brakes?
GREEN
When is NORMAL BRAKING available?
GREEN pressure available
A/SKID & N/W STRG switch is ON
At least one BSCU channel functioning
When in the Green arc, how long can the parking brake provide pressure?
12 hours
How would you pressurize the YELLOW system for the parking brake?
Yellow Electric Pump
*get ground clearance first
What do Brake Pressure gauges represent?
Parking Brake (yellow) pressure
What 2 systems are essential for an aborted TO?
Auto Brakes and Spoilers
When will Auto Brakes engage during a rejected TO?
Spoilers activated
Thrust to IDLE
MAX auto brakes apply auto with spoiler activation
What is the steering limit of the rudder pedals?
6 degrees either direction
gradually reduced at 40 knots to 0 at 140
What does AUTO/BK LO do?
Activates 4 seconds after ground spoiler extension
1.7 m/sec deceleration
What does AUTO/BK MED do?
Activates 2 seconds after ground spoiler extension
3 m/sec deceleration
When will DECEL light activate?
80% target rate
How do you deactivate auto brakes?
Turn off AUTO/BRK pb
Apply pressure to at least one brake pedal (both for MAX)
Retract ground spoilers
When would you call mx for abnormal brake temp after landing?
> 600C
<60C
When would Alternate Braking with AntiSkid be active?
Low Green Pressure
*no AutoBrakes
When would Alternate Braking withOUT AntiSkid be active?
Low Green Pressure
Loss of BSCU
When would Accumulator only braking be used?
Low GREEN and YELLOW Pressure
Accumulator provides 7 full brake applications on YELLOW system
When would the RED arrow illuminate next to the Gear Selector?
Gear not down and locked at 750 AGL
Why would recycling the gear help a gear problem?
Recycling the gear switches to the other LGCIU
What if only one Green gear indicator is present?
This is sufficiant to conclude that the gear is down
However, the doors will not close
What other systems are unavailable with the loss of both LCGIUs?
Thrust Reversers
GPWS
What other systems are unavailable with the loss of both BSCUs? Or turning off the A/SKID & N/W STRG switch.
Nosewheel Steering
Normal Braking
Antiskid
Autobrakes
How is gravity extension achieved? And what happens to the doors?
- When a crew turns the cranko It isolates the landing gear hydraulics from the green hydraulic systemo Unlicks the LG doors + gearso Allows gravity to drop the gear into extended position.- The gear doors remain open for the rest of the flight.
On the GEAR panel what is indicated by a red UNLK light? What is the information source?
- UNLK (red) if the gear is not locked in the selected position.- Panel is connected to LGCIU1, receives signals from proximity detectors.
How many green triangles (on the SD) confirm that the gear is locked down?
1
When on take-off, does N.W. steering become inhibited?
- Until 80kts for hand wheels- Until 130kts for rudder pedals.
How much N.W. Steering is available through: Rudder Pedals / Steering Hand wheel?
Rudder pedals: +/- 6 degreesSteering hand wheel: +/- 75 degrees
