16
Q

How can the wing anti-ice be ground tested?

A

Pushing the WING ANTI-ICE pb on the ground will first open the valves,

after 10 seconds, the valves are displayed in amber

after 30 seconds the valves close and open automatically after takeoff

19
Q

What are is the hot air taken from for the engine anti-icing and the wing anti-icing?

A
  • An independent air bleed from the high-pressure compressor protects each engine nacelle form ice. Air is supplied through a two positions (open or closed) valve that the crew controls with two p/b, 1 for each engine.- Hot air from the pneumatic system heats three outboard slats (3-5) of each wing. Air sis supplied via 1 valve on each wing.
20
Q

What happens if there is NO electrical control to the wing anti-ice valve / engine anti-ice valve?

A
  • If the electrical power supply fails, the valves close.- If the electrical power fails, the valves open.
21
Q

How long does the WAI ground test last? What happens after that time? What happens at lift-off if still on?

A
  • 30 seconds, then the valves close.- Light still illuminates- Valves re-open once lift-off.
22
Q

What happens to the N1 and N1 limit, when EAI is selected ON?

A

N1 limit reduces, N1 increases.

23
Q

Which probes are NOT heated on the ground?

A

TAT (pitot heating low, auto changes to normal once in flight.

24
Q

In the AUTO position, when are PROBES and WINDOWS heated automatically?

A
  • In flight- On the ground (except tat probes) provided one engine is running.
25
Q

Below what temperature can de-icing be switch off?

A

-40 degrees during climb or cruise.

26
Q

What defines icing conditions?

A

Less or equal to +10 degrees OAT or TAT, visible moisture, clouds, fog, low visibly less or equal to 1NM, rain, snow, sleet, ice crystals or standing water, slush, ice or snow is present on the taxiways or runways.

27
Q

On which ECAM page can you get information about the anti-ice system?

A

On the BLEED page.

28
Q

If one engine anti-ice system fails can the second one take over and provide anti-icing for both engines?

A

No.

29
Q

How does the probe heat heating work?

A

Electrical heating protects pitot heads static ports Angle-Of-Attack probes (AOAs) and Total AIr Temperature (TAT) probes. Three independent Probe Heat Computers (PHCs) automatically control and monitor Captains probes F/O probes and STYBY probes.

30
Q

When does the window heating come on?

A

The window heating comes on automatically when at least one engine is running or when the aircraft is in flight and manually before engine start when the flight crew switches ON the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pushbutton switch.

31
Q

Are the TAT probes heated on the ground?

A

On the ground the TAT probes are not heated and pitot heating operates at a low level (the changeover to normal power in flight is automatic).

32
Q

When do the wing anti-ice valves automatically close?

A
  • On landing- Bleed leak detected- Loss of electrical power
33
Q

When does continuous ignition automatically operate?

A
  • Engine Anti-ice ON- Engine flameout detection- Failure of the EIU
34
Q

Is the engine anti-ice part of the normal pneumatic system?

A

No. It is a separate system independent of the pneumatic ducting

35
Q

When do you use engine anti-ice?

A
  • When OAT (Ground) / TAT (Flight) 10 degrees C or below with visible moisture present- Prior to and during descent in icing conditions (including temperatures below -40 degrees C SAT)
36
Q

What does a “FAULT” light in the ENG ANTI ICE pushbutton indicate?

A

Switch/anti-ice valve disagreement

37
Q

With ENG ANTI ICE ON what indications will you see?

A
  • Blue ENG ANTI ICE light ON- ECAM: ENG ANTI ICE- ECAM: IGNITION- N1 limit is reduced (amber tick on N1 indicator)- N1 idle is increased
38
Q

What should you do if there is significant engine vibration due to ice?

A

Increase N1 to 70% for a minimum of 15 seconds prior to selecting a higher thrust

39
Q

With engine anti-ice ON, is your descent affected?

A

Yes, because idle thrust is increased

40
Q

Should you use wing anti-ice on the ground?

A

No

41
Q

Can you use the APU bleed for wing anti-ice?

A

No

42
Q

What does the amber “FAULT” light in the WING ANTI ICE pushbutton indicate?

A
  • Switch/anti-ice valve disagreement- Low pressure is detected
43
Q

What happens when the RAIN RPLNT pushbutton is pressed?

A

Timer applies a measured quantity of rain repellent to the windshield

44
Q

With the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pushbutton ON will the heaters automatically switch to AUTO?

A

No

45
Q

On the ground, with the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pushbutton in AUTO, when are the probe and mast heaters activated?

A
  • LOW with at least one engine running (except the TAT probe - not heated on ground)- NORMAL is automatically selected after T/O
46
Q

When will the RAIN RPLNT pushbutton not work?

A

On the ground with the engines stopped
