Landing Gear Flashcards
Describe the meaning of green Landing Gear Indicator lights for landing verification
Related gear is down and locked.
- Landing gear is down and locked as long as one green landing gear indicator light (center panel or overhead panel) for each gear is illuminated
Note: the overhead panel lights are backups in case the center panel lights burn out or malfunction somehow)
VOL 2 / 14.1.1
Explain the meaning of the (amber) AUTO BRAKE DISARM light
- SPEEDBRAKE lever moved to down detent during RTO or landing (really???)
- manual brakes applied during RTO or landing
- Thrust lever(s) advance during RTO or landing (except during first 3 seconds after touchdown or landing)
- Landing made with RTO selected
- RTO selected on ground (illuminates for two seconds then extinguishes)
- A malfunction exists in automatic braking system
VOL 2 / 14.1.4
Explain the meaning of the (amber) ANTISKID INOP
A system fault is detected by the antiskid monitoring system
VOL 2 / 14.1.4
Explain the function of the Landing Gear Override Trigger
Allows the landing gear lever to be raised, bypassing the landing gear lever lock
VOL 2 / 14.1.1
Recall antiskid is available in the normal and alternate braking systems
Antiskid protection is provided in the normal and alternate brake systems. Both normal and alternate brake systems provide skid, locked wheel, touchdown and hydroplane protection.
Note: Antiskid protection is available even with loss of both hydraulic systems.
VOL 2 / 14.2.4.4
Describe the Brake System
Normal Brake System
- is powered by hydraulic system B
- Anti-skid and autobrakes are available
Alternate Brake System
- is powered by hydraulic system A
- if hydraulic system B is low or fails, hydraulic sytem A automatically supplies pressure to the alternate brake system
- Anti-skid is available but autobrakes are INOP
Brake Accumulator
- is pressurized by hydraulic system B
- If both normal and alternate brake system pressure is lost, trapped hydraulic pressure in the brake accumulator can still provide several braking applications or parking brake application
- Autobrakes are INOP
Autobrake System
- Uses hydraulic system B pressure to provide maximum deceleration for rejected takeoff and automatic braking at pre-selected deceleration rates immediately after touchdown
- system operates only when the normal brake system is functioning
- Anti-skid system protection is provided
Parking Brake
- Can be set with either system A or B hydraulic systems pressurized
- if A and B hydraulic systems are not pressurized, parking brake pressure is maintained by the brake accumulator. (Accumulator pressure is shown on the HYD BRAKE PRESS indicator)
VOL 2 / 14.2.4
Recall how the autobrakes can be disarmed
- Moving the SPEED BRAKE lever to the down detent
- Advancing the forward thrust lever(s), except during the first 3 seconds after touchdown
- Applying manual brakes
- Moving the selector switch to the OFF position
VOL 2 / 14.2.4.5.3
True or False:
Alternate brakes are available automatically in the event of a hydraulic system B loss
TRUE
ESV-SA: Landing Gear
How are the landing gear verified “Down and Locked?”
Landing gear is down and locked as long as one green landing gear indicator light (center panel or overhead panel) for each gear is illuminated
ESV-SA: Landing Gear
True or False:
Both normal and alternate brake systems provide ski, locked wheel, touchdown and hydroplane protection?
TRUE
ESV-SA: Landing Gear
What will cause the ANTISKID INOP light to illuminate?
A system fault is detected
ESV-SA: Landing Gear
If A and B hydraulic systems are not pressurized, parking brake pressure if maintained by:
The brake accumulator
