Airplane General, Emergency Equipment, Doors, Windows Flashcards
Recall the location of the POSITION, ANTI COLLISION, WING, WHEEL WELL, LANDING, RUNWAY TURNOFF and TAXI light switches
All on the Forward Overhead Panel (lower edge)
Captain’s side:
- LANDING
- RUNWAY TURNOFF
- TAXI
FO’s side:
- POSITION
- ANTI COLLISION
- WING
- WHEEL WELL
Note: due to heat buildup, the fixed landing and runway turnoff lights should not be on at the same time when the aircraft is on the ground and stopped.
VOL 2 / 1.3.8 & 1.4.2
Recall the location of the DOME WHITE switch
Aft Overhead Panel
Memory aid:
(The dome light is above you just like in a car)
VOL 2 / 1.4.1.6
Explain the function of the EMER EXIT LIGHTS switch
OFF - Prevents emergency lights system operation if airplane electrical power fails or is turned off.
ARMED - All emergency lights illuminate automatically if:
- Airplane electrical power fails
- AC power is turned off
(This is the normal switch position when the switch is guarded aka guarded position)
ON - All emergency lights illuminate
VOL 2 / 1.4.3.1
Recall the emergency lights can be activated from the flight attendant panel, regardless of flight deck switch position
The emergency exit lights may be illuminated by a switch on the aft attendant’s panel. Lifting the guard and pushing the switch ON overrides the flight deck control and illuminates the emergency exit lights.
Makes sense, they hold the powaaa since they’re dealing with it in the back.
VOL 2 / 1.4.3.2
Recall the number and location of all emergency exits
Ways in:
- 1 First officer’s window
- 2 passenger entry doors (left side)
- 2 service doors (right side)
- 4 overwing emergency exits in passenger cabin
= 9 ways in
Ways out:
- 2 both windows in flight deck
- 2 passenger entry doors (left side)
- 2 service doors (right side)
- 4 overwing emergency exits in passenger cabin
= 10 ways out
VOL 2 / 1.5.10.1 & 1.5.10.2
Locate the flight deck indications for open ENTRY, SERVICE, EQUIP, OVERWING and CARGO doors
Lights located on the Forward Overhead Panel
They are oriented just like the plane is.
Left side:
- FWD ENTRY (entry on left side of plane)
- LEFT FWD OVERWING
- LEFT AFT OVERWING
- AFT ENTRY
- EQUIP located left left of those, adjacent to left aft overwing
Right side:
- FWD SERVICE (service on right side of plane)
- RIGHT FWD OVERWING
- RIGHT AFT OVERWING
- AFT SERVICE
- FWD CARGO located right right of those, adjacent to right forward overwing
- AFT CARGO located right right of those, adjacent to right aft overwing
Illumination of these door lights will trigger the DOORS annunciation and both the MASTER CAUTION lights
VOL 2 / 1.4.5.2
Recommended pavement width for a 180 degree turn?
79.7 feet is minimum
Memory aid:
- We fly a 737, not a 797.
- That time in Yak when the runway was closed/ iced over all morning until the DOT got it to 3’s but only cleared 80ft and we thought we would have to get a tug out on the runway to turn us around to back taxi since Yak doesn’t have taxiways
VOL 2 / 1.2.2
What is the function of the overwing exit flight lock system? (During a normal takeoff and landing)
Designed to ensure the flight locks will automatically lock during takeoff, in-flight, and landing AND unlock on the ground to allow for opening of the over wing exit doors in emergency situations.
Memory aid:
- The overwing exit flight lock system has a squat switch
VOL 2 / 1.5.10.5
Recall the type and quantity of emergency equipment located on the flight deck.
Memory aid:
VAPEHOG
V - Vests for Crew x3
A - Axe
P - PBE
E - ELT
H - Halon Fire Extinguisher
O - Oxygen Masks for Crew x3
G - Gloves Heat Resistent
VOL 2 / 1.5.8
Recall the location of the Passenger Oxygen system controls and indicators
Center Aft Overhead Panel
Memory aid:
- 12 o clock (up) because they only get 12 mins baha
VOL 2 / 1.4.6.1
Describe the function of the PASS OXYGEN switch
NORMAL - (guarded position) passenger masks drop and passenger oxygen activated automatically if cabin altitude climbs to 14,000 ft
ON - activates system and drops masks if automatic function fails
VOL 2 / 1.4.6.1
Recall the lights associated with an activated Passenger Oxygen System
When the system is activated:
- PASS OXY ON light illuminates (on the center of the Aft Overhead Panel)
- OVERHEAD annunciator illuminates on the MASTER CAUTION lights
Note: activating the system causes the masks to drop from the storage compartments but passengers must pull the mask down to activate the oxygen generators (it causes a chemical reaction when yanked). Pulling one mask down causes all masks in that unit to come down and 100% oxygen flows to all masks for 12 MINUTES and cannot be shutoff (hence chemical reaction).
VOL 2 / 1.4.6.1 & 15.2.3.1.2
Identify how the Passenger Oxygen System may be activated
Automatically if cabin climbs to 14,000ft
NOT 10,000ft - that’s the cabin altitude horn
NOT overridden by the FA’s - that’s the emergency exit lights
ESV- SA: Aircraft General
The switch to manually drop the passenger oxygen masks is located
on the Aft Overhead Panel
