Landing Gear Flashcards
Landing gear indicator lights illuminated RED
landing gear is not down and locked with either or both thrust levers at idle and below 800 AGL
OR
related gear is in disagreement with LANDING GEAR lever (in transit or unsafe)
Landing gear lever (UP, OFF, DN)
UP- landing gear retract
OFF- hydraulic pressure removed from gear system
DN- landing gear extend
Landing gear override trigger
allows gear lever to be raised, bypassing the gear lever lock
Manual Extension Access Door
OPEN:
-manual landing gear extension possible regardless of lever position
- normal gear extension still possible with hydraulic system A pressure available
- gear retraction disabled
CLOSED- normal
AUTOBRAKE DISARM light
Amber:
-speed brake lever moved to down detent during RTO or landing
- manual braking applied
- thrust levers advanced during RTO or Landing
- landing made with RTO selected
- malfunction in autobrakes
If extinguished the system is sleected OFF or autobrake is armed
ANTISKID INOP (amber light)
system fault is detected
Brake temp (amber light)
temp of one or more brakes exceed 4.9
NOSE WHEEL STEERING switch
ALT- hydraulic system B provides power for steering
NORM- hydraulic system A provides power for steering
Rudder pedals provide how many degrees of steering in either direction
7
Nose wheel steering wheel provides how many degrees of steering in either direction?
78 degrees
During gear retraction, what stops the rotation of the main gear wheels? The nose?
brakes stop rotation of the mains and snubber stops rotation of nose
What holds main gear in place after retraction? Nose gear?
mechanical uplocks for the main and an overcenter lock for the nose
If a spinning tire with loose tread is present, what prevents the gear from retracting?
the spinning tire with loose tread will impact a fitting in the wheel well ring opening (frangible fitting) and the gear will free fall back down
How does the gear go down normally and what keeps it extended?
Hydraulic system A pressure releases the uplocks and helps to extend the gear along with gravity and air loads. OVercenter mechanical and hydraulic locks hold the gear down
How would you retract the gear after manual extension?
close manual extension access door
move gear lever to down with system A pressure available and then position it UP
What does the brake system include?
- Normal brakes
- alternate brakes
- brake accumulator
- antiskid protection
- autobrakes
- parking brake
- and brake temp indication in some a/c ‘
Does anti-skid work with alternate brakes?
yes
What is the difference in how the anti skid works in the normal and alternate brake systems?
In the normal system, each main gear has individual antiskid protection
in the alternate system, the antiskid protection is applied to main gear wheel pairs
what does antiskid protection provide?
skid, locked wheel, touchdown, and hydroplane protection
What conditions must be met to arm RTO prior to takeoff?
-airplane on ground
antiskid and autobrakes operational
Autobrake switch positioned to RTO
wheel speed less than 60
forward thrust levers IDLE
with RTO selected, if the takeoff is rejected below __ knots, autobraking is not initiated and the AUTO BRAKE DISARM light does not come on
90 knots
When does autobrake application occur after landing?
thrust levers both at idle and main wheel spin up
how will autobrake pressure be affected as other controls such as thrust reverse and spoilers contribute to deceleration?
autobrake pressure will be reduced to maintain selected landing deceleration rate
