Automatic flight 2024 Flashcards
What does TO/GA AFDS command when engaged for takeoff?
The AFDS commands pitch attitude in the following order:
- 10 degrees nose down until 60 knots
- 15 degrees nose up after 60 knots
- 15 degrees nose up after lift-off until a sufficient climb rate is acquired. Then, pitch is commanded to maintain MCP speed plus 20 knots.
What does the AFDS pitch command if an engine failure occurs at or after lift-off?
If an engine failure occurs at lift off:
- the pitch continues at 15 degrees until sufficient climb rate is acquired. Pitch then commands MCP speed (normally V2) plus 20
- if the engine failure occurs on the ground, the pitch command target speed at lift-off is V2 or airspeed at lift-off, whichever is greater
- the roll commands wings level
if the engine failure occurs after lift-off the pitch command is:
1. V2 if airspeed is below V2
2. Existing speed is between V2 and V2 plus 20
3. V2 plus 20 if airpseed is above v2 plus 20
When below 2000 feet RA, what N1 will the A/T command with one push of either TO/GA switch?
The A/T (if armed) engaged in GA and advances thrust toward the reduced go around N1 to produce 1000 to 2000 FPM. the FMA indicates GA
What N1 will the A/T command with a second push of either TO/GA switch?
The A/T will advance to the full go-around N1 limit
During a go-around, what changes in the MCP pitch mode if you engage the autopilot?
TO/GA terminates and LVL change engages when you engage the autopilot in the go around
During approach, how do you exit the APP mode?
Exit APP mode can be done by:
- Pushing TO/GA switch
- disengaging the AP and turning off both F/D switches
- Retuning VHF nav receiver
During a go-around, what airspeed will be commanded after pushing either TO/GA switch?
The command airspeed cursor automatically moves to a target airspeed for the existing flap position based on max TO weight calculations
What does white A/T LIM indication mean on the thrust mode display?
The FMC is not providing the A/T system with N1 limit values. the A/T is using a degraded N1 thrust limit from the related EEC
What does a flashing ‘8” or “A” mean on the IAS/MACH window?
the overspeed “8” or underspeed “A” limiting symbol appears when the commanded speed cannot be reached
the overspeed limiting “8” :
1. Vmo or Mmo limit
2. landing gear limit
3. flap limit
In which MCP pitch mode are SPD INTV and ALT INTV available?
VNAV
To arm VNAV on the ground, what criteria must be met?
- Valid Flight Plan entered
- Performance data entered and executed
- Both F/D switches have been switched ON
On the ground with VNAV armed prior to takeoff, at what altitude does VNAV become active?
400 FT AGL
During a VNAV PTH descent, what speed will the FMC attempt to maintain?
A path descent uses the target speed for planning purposes only. There is no attempt to maintain the target speed during the idle portion of the descent.
When in path descent, if the actual airspeed is less than the descent target speed by 10 kt, the FMC transitions to FMC SPD as the thrust mode. It will return to RETARD/ARM mode when the aircraft speed is equal to target speed
What is the importance of an amber FMC Alert light on the Autopilot/Autothrottle indicators panel?
- The FAIL light on MCDUs is illuminated OR
- an alerting message exists for both MCDUs, OR
- the test switch is in position 1 or 2 OR
- When insufficient fuel alerting message displayed on the MCDU scratchpad
What is the green rectangle around the pitch, roll, and A/P status in the FMA?
Mode Change Highlight Symbol (green box) means the mode was engaged within the last 10 seconds
