Landing Gear Flashcards
What is the function of the two Landing Gear Control and Interface Units (LGCIU)?
control the extension and retraction of the gear and the operation of the doors. They also supply information about the landing gear to ECAM for display and send signals indicating whether the aircraft is in flight or on the ground to other aircraft systems.
When does the red arrow in the LND panel illuminate?
if the landing gear is not locked down when the aircraft is in the landing configuration below 750 feet RA. Also, a red warning appears on ECAM.
What happens if your airspeed is 280 knots and you place the Landing Gear lever to DOWN?
Nothing, When the aircraft is flying faster than 260 kt, a safety valve automatically cuts off hydraulic supply to the landing gear system.
What do the red UNLK lights indicate?
the gear is not locked in the selected position.
What controls and manages all braking functions?
In normal operation, a dual channel Brake and Steering Control Unit (BSCU) controls normal braking and anti-skid.
What happens when you switch the A/SKID & N/W STRG to OFF?
The yellow hydraulic system supplies pressure to the brakes.
• Anti-skid is deactivated. The pilot must refer to the triple indicator to limit brake pressure and avoid locking a wheel. However, a 1000-psi pressure limiting valve helps prevent wheel lock up.
• Nosewheel steering is lost
• Differential braking remains available through the pedals
• Triple indicator displays yellow system brake pressure
• The BSCU is depowered
What are the four modes of braking?
- Normal braking
- Alternate braking with anti-skid
- Alternate braking without anti-skid
- Parking brake
Which hydraulic systems provide pressure to the brakes?
normal system uses green hydraulic pressure
alternate system uses the yellow hydraulic system backed up by the hydraulic
accumulator
When do the Autobrakes activate on landing if armed?
• the command for ground spoilers extension is detected for LO and MED mode
What does the AUTO BRK green DECEL light indicate?
Comes on green when the actual deceleration is 80% of the selected rate.
What is the difference between LOW and MED AUTO BRK?
- MED mode sends progressive pressure to the brakes 2 seconds after the ground spoilers deploy in order to decelerate the aircraft at approximately 10 ft/s².
- LO mode sends progressive pressure to the brakes 4 seconds after the ground spoilers deploy, in order to decelerate the aircraft at approximately 6 ft/s².
What is the Takeoff setting for Auto Brakes?
MAX mode is normally selected for takeoff.
What will cause the MAX AUTO BRK to activate on a RTO?
• the command for ground spoilers extension is detected, and the aircraft speed is above
40 kts, for MAX mode
Therefore, if the aircraft makes a rejected takeoff when its speed is under 72 kts, the MAX automatic braking will not activate because the ground spoilers will not extend.
If you lose Green hydraulic pressure will you have autobrakes?
No, in Alternate Braking the autobrake is inoperative
Is Anti-skid available with Alternate Brakes?
Possibly, Depends on the failure. There are two types of Alternate Braking with and without Anti-skid.
